Commercial server software often runs with deep privileges. That makes reseller authorization more than a paperwork question: it is part of the trust chain you rely on before an installer, license service or activation method touches production infrastructure.

Ask one precise question

Send the seller name and exact product URL to the software maker and ask whether the seller is authorized to resell that product using the advertised activation method.

Do not treat price alone as proof

A very low price can justify extra verification, but it does not by itself establish wrongdoing. The useful evidence is the vendor's own answer about authorization and licensing terms.

Verify before root access

If activation requires scripts, agents or commands with elevated privileges, verify the seller and method before running them. Production servers should not be the place where an unexplained licensing mechanism is tested.

Keep the answer narrow

If the vendor confirms only that a seller is not an authorized reseller, report exactly that. Broader conclusions require separate evidence.
